Potential Application of Genomic Technologies in Breeding for Fungal and Oomycete Disease Resistance in Pea

Growth and yield of pea crops are severely affected by various fungal diseases, including root rot, Ascochyta blight, powdery mildew, rust, in different parts the world. Conventional breeding methods have led to enhancement host plant resistance against these diseases adapted cultivars, which is primary option minimize losses. To support programs for marker-assisted selection, several successful attempts been made detect genetic loci associated with disease resistance, based on SSR SNP markers. In recent years, advances next-generation sequencing platforms, resulting improvements high-throughput economical genotyping methods, used make rapid progress identification loci. The first reference genome sequence was published 2019 provides insights distribution architecture gene families resistance.
